Radio28Portugal.com was established in 1973 and our first broadcast was transmitted from Chicago, Illinois. Since then, we have been broadcasting Portuguese music, news and also Christian music which we hope not only entertains our listeners but keeps them informed and even inspired.
It is the brainchild of two friends Pedro Belmonte and Miguel David who wanted to keep the Portuguese community close-knit through information. It was their belief that the radio station would serve as a catalyst for them to stay active in the community and united as a people.
Today, the children of these 2 founders have continued with their legacy. It continues to be a non-profit establishment, with its earnings going to several charity projects that benefit the Portuguese community directly.
Since that time, we have grown and now also broadcast in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
Our most followed shows are the live forums with Andres Salazar and Jose Belmonte where the hosts are able to interact with community members and assist with local concerns. We are proud to say that we have, on countless occasions, been of service to the community through Quick Reports, emergency assistance and partnering with government units during a crisis.
Our Mission is to deliver news truthfully and on-time and to serve as a means for the community to have a voice. To this end, all our talk show broadcasts welcome callers who have something to share with other community members or an issue needing urgent action.
We have also made it a point to make our station available for the Portuguese community to keep abreast of news happening in our home country about all areas of interest – current events, social events, and even music and movies. As they say, home is where the heart is.
We operate from 5am to 10 pm daily.
